A Love Letter to September:

Founder’s Notes:

September always reminds us to show up to class. Literally and figuratively.

After everything the summer has brought to the surface, there is something about September that makes us want to get our lives together. The notebooks come out. The calendars get reorganized. We start thinking about routines, projects, the house, the closet, and the things we said we would do before the year is over. There is this collective feeling that it is time to lock in. But before we do all of that, I think we need to give ourselves a minute.

I’m writing this from the East Coast, where the weather over the next few days is looking especially gloomy, and honestly, it feels fitting. Not because September is here to dim anything, but because transitions rarely happen with a perfectly clear sky. August brought a lot to the surface. There was fire, movement, clarity, celebration, reflection, and probably a few realizations you weren’t expecting to have. You may still be processing some of it, and I think that’s okay. We talk so much about September as the month to get focused, get organized, and prepare for the final four months of the year that we sometimes skip the part where we actually transition into it. We go from August straight into strategy mode, as if everything we learned over the summer needs to immediately become a five-step plan. It doesn’t.

Last year, when I wrote this letter, I remember the transition from August into September feeling much lighter. This year feels different. August carried a lot of fire, and when a month gives you that much clarity, you don’t always walk out of it empty-handed. Sometimes you walk into the next month carrying new information, new questions, and a much clearer understanding of yourself. Take that with you. You don’t have to rush to organize every revelation or immediately act on every realization. Some things need to settle before you know what you want to do with them. That is also making space.

September has always felt like an invitation to declutter and refresh. We clean out the closet, rearrange the home, toss what has expired, buy new notebooks, change our routines, and create systems that make life feel a little easier. I love all of that, but this year I want to think about making space a little differently.

Make space in your heart, too.

Make room for something to surprise you. Make room for people who make you feel good, conversations you haven’t had yet and a version of yourself that may not look exactly like the one you thought you’d become at the beginning of the year. And make room for joy.

September can feel analytical because it naturally brings structure with it. There are schedules, calendars, deadlines, plans, and all of the technical pieces that make us feel like we’re getting our lives back in order. But don’t become so caught up in the technical pieces that you forget there is still a whole season ahead of you to experience. The fall equinox doesn’t arrive until later this month. Summer is still leaving its fingerprints on us. There may still be warm afternoons, long dinners outside and a little more sunlight than we’re ready to give up. Let the transition take its time.

There is no prize for becoming the most organized version of yourself on September 1st. Take what August taught you. Give yourself some room to breathe. Let the next chapter introduce itself before you decide exactly what it needs to be. Yes, there are four months left in the year, but we don’t have to sprint through them. There is still plenty of time to create, adjust, repair, begin, continue, rest, celebrate, and surprise yourself.

So declutter the closet if it needs it. Clean the house. Rearrange the furniture. Get your calendar together. Make the list. But while you’re making space for everything that’s next, don’t accidentally remove the parts of your life that make you want to be here.

Let September be the doorway to the best four months of the year.

Not because everything needs to happen before December, but because there is still so much possibility on the other side of this door.

The Beauty of the In Between

September - Early October

September sits in an interesting place. Part of the month wants to organize everything, while another part wants us to remember that life is meant to be enjoyed.

Virgo energy brings our attention back to the details. What needs tending? What needs adjusting? What has become unnecessarily complicated? Where could a little structure make your life easier?

Then Libra enters and reminds us that a life can be functional and still be beautiful.

That balance feels especially important this month.

You don’t have to choose between having your life together and having fun. You don’t have to sacrifice beauty for practicality or structure for spontaneity. There is room for both.

Let September help you refine without becoming rigid. Edit without erasing. Organize without overthinking. Make decisions without believing every decision has to be permanent.

Sometimes the most beautiful version of your life is simply the one that has enough room for you to actually live in it.

Overall Energy

September is about making space with intention.

Not because everything needs to be cleared out. Not because you need a new personality, a new routine, or another list of things to accomplish before the year ends.

Make space because you have changed.

Some things that fit at the beginning of the year may not fit anymore. Some goals may still matter. Others may not. Some relationships may feel deeper. Some may feel different. Some dreams may have grown with you, while others may have revealed themselves as something you were only carrying because you once thought you were supposed to want them.

That’s information, too.

Don’t be afraid to adjust.

This is the month to take inventory without turning your life into a performance review. Look at what is working. Look at what isn’t. Look at what deserves more of your attention and what has been taking up space simply because you’ve gotten used to carrying it.

You don’t have to keep everything just because you’ve carried it this far. And you don’t have to throw everything away just because you’re ready for something new.

Discernment is knowing the difference.

September asks you to make room for the life that is trying to meet you where you are now.

So clean the closet. Rearrange the room. Delete the screenshots. Change the routine. Make the appointment. Finish the thing you’ve been putting off. But also forgive yourself.

Leave some room on the calendar for something you didn’t plan.

The goal isn’t to make your life perfectly organized.

It’s to make it feel like yours.

And as we enter the final four months of the year, don’t underestimate what can happen when you stop trying to force the entire future into one month.

There is still time. There is still room. There is still so much ahead.

Let September be the doorway.

Mind + Body

Your mind may be ready to organize everything after a summer full of movement, information, and stimulation. Give it somewhere to land before asking it to produce the next big thing.

Write it down. Make the list. Clean up the notes app. Finish the thought you’ve been circling. Put the dates in the calendar. There is something satisfying about taking the mental clutter and giving it a physical home.

But don’t turn every realization into an assignment.

Some things need time to settle.

You may still be thinking about something August brought to your attention. A conversation. A relationship. A decision. A desire. A truth you weren’t quite ready to name before. Give yourself permission to process without demanding an immediate conclusion.

Your body may also feel the transition before your mind does. The light is changing. The weather is changing. Your routines may be changing. Let your body adjust instead of demanding that it immediately perform at the pace you’ve decided the new season requires.

Get outside while the weather allows it. Take advantage of the remaining warm evenings. Walk. Stretch. Eat something nourishing. Get enough sleep. Open the windows when the air feels good. Let yourself enjoy the last pieces of summer while making room for what’s next.

And if the weather is gloomy, let it be gloomy.

You don’t have to force sunshine into every day.

Some days are for productivity. Some are for processing. Some are for getting your house together. Some are for doing absolutely nothing after work and calling that a successful evening.

Your body doesn’t need another season of proving what it can handle.

It needs you to listen.

Journal Prompts

What did August reveal to me that I am still processing?

What am I ready to leave behind as I move into September?

What do I want to carry forward from the summer?

Where in my life am I craving more structure, and where am I craving more freedom?

What would making emotional space look like for me right now?

What am I trying to rush into understanding?

What can I allow to unfold before I decide what it means?

What parts of my life still feel like me, and what parts are ready for an update?

What am I making room for that I don’t have all the details about yet?

Where have I confused being productive with actually moving forward?

What would make these next four months feel meaningful, even if they don’t go exactly according to plan?

What do I want to experience before the year comes to a close?

And perhaps the biggest one:

What would happen if I let September be a doorway instead of a deadline?
